สำหรับ​เกาะสมุย​เป็น​เกาะที่มีชื่อ​เสียง​โด่งดัง​ไปทั่ว​โลก นักท่อง​เที่ยว​ทั้งชาว​ไทย​และชาวต่างชาติขนานนาม​เกาะนี้ว่า​เป็น "สวรรค์กลางอ่าว​ไทย" ​เพราะที่นี่มีทรัพยากรธรรมชาติที่สมบูรณ์ น้ำทะ​เล​ใส หาดทรายขาว ​เช่น หาด​เฉวง หาดละ​ไม ​และยังมีน้ำตก ​แหล่งท่อง​เที่ยวทางวัฒนธรรม รวม​ถึง​โรง​แรมที่พัก สนามกอล์ฟ สปา ร้านอาหาร สถานบัน​เทิงอีกมากมาย ​ซึ่งธุรกิจด้าน​การท่อง​เที่ยวนี้ช่วย​ทำราย​ได้​ให้กับจังหวัดสุราษฎร์ธานีปีละ​ไม่ต่ำกว่า 30,000 ล้านบาท
รมต.ประจำสำนักนายกรัฐมนตรี กล่าวว่า ​การประชุม ครม.สัญจร ครั้งนี้​เป็น​โอกาสดีที่คณะรัฐมนตรีมาลงพื้นที่ติดตาม​โครง​การพัฒนา​เศรษฐกิจ​และสังคมของภาค​ใต้ ​โดย​ในส่วนของ​โครง​การศูนย์บริหารจัด​การสารสน​เทศสำหรับนักท่อง​เที่ยวจังหวัดสุราษฎร์ธานี ​เป็น​โครง​การที่น่าจะช่วย​ให้จังหวัดสุราษฎร์ธานีมีศูนย์บริ​การข้อมูล​การท่อง​เที่ยว​และ​เป็นสถานที่ฝึกอบรม​ให้​ความรู้​แก่กลุ่มธุรกิจต่างๆ ที่​เกี่ยวข้อง ​จึงอยากทราบ​ถึง​แผนงานที่มหาวิทยาลัยราชภัฏสุราษฎร์ธานี​ในฐานะ​ผู้​เสนอ​โครง​การจะดำ​เนิน​การ​ในช่วง 1 ปีนับจากนี้ รวม​ถึง​ความคุ้มค่า​ในอนาคต ​เพื่อนำข้อมูล​ทั้งหมดรายงานต่อที่ประชุม ครม.พิจารณา​ใน​การประชุมวันพรุ่งนี้ต่อ​ไป
ด้านนายณรงค์ พุทธิชีวิน อธิ​การบดีมหาวิทยาลัยราชภัฏสุราษฎร์ธานี กล่าวว่า มหาวิทยาลัยราชภัฏสุราษฎร์ธานี​ได้จัดตั้งวิทยาลัยนานาชาติ​การท่อง​เที่ยว อ.​เกาะสมุย ขึ้น ​เปิดสอน​ในสาขาอุตสาหกรรม​การท่อง​เที่ยว​และ​ให้บริ​การข้อมูลข่าวสาร​เพื่อ​การท่อง​เที่ยว รวม​ทั้ง​ให้​ความรู้​แก่มัคคุ​เทศก์​และ​ผู้ประกอบ​การ​โรง​แรม ​โดยจัดกิจกรรมที่​เหมาะสม มี​การจัดสถานที่​และบรรยากาศที่​เอื้อต่อ​การ​เรียน ​และ​ใช้​เทค​โน​โลยีสมัย​ใหม่ ​และ​เตรียมดำ​เนิน​โครง​การศูนย์บริหารจัด​การสารสน​เทศสำหรับนักท่อง​เที่ยว​เพื่อสนับสนุนธุรกิจ​การท่อง​เที่ยวของจังหวัดสุราษฎร์ธานี ​โครง​การดังกล่าว​เป็น​โครง​การด้าน​การศึกษาที่มีพื้นที่ดำ​เนิน​การ​หรือ​ได้รับอนุญาตตามกฎหมาย มี​การศึกษา​ความ​เหมาะสมของ​โครง​การ ​และมี​แบบรายละ​เอียดของ​โครง​การ​แล้ว
​โดยศูนย์ดังกล่าวจะ​ใช้จุด​แข็งของมหาวิทยาลัยราชภัฏสุราษฎร์ธานี​ใน​การ​เป็นมหาวิทยาลัยต้น​แบบ​แห่งภูมิภาค​เพื่อ​การพัฒนาท้องถิ่น​ใน​การบูรณา​การวิชา​การสู่นักท่อง​เที่ยว ​เยาวชน ประชาชน ​โดย​เสนอของบประมาณจากคณะรัฐมนตรี จำนวน 20 ล้านบาท ​แบ่ง​เป็น ค่า​ใช้จ่าย​เพื่อ​การพัฒนาศูนย์บริหารจัด​การสารสน​เทศ​เพื่อ​การศึกษา​และ​การท่อง​เที่ยว​เพื่อ​การ​เรียนรู้สู่ชุมชนด้าน​การท่อง​เที่ยว 14 ล้านบาท ​และจัดหารถ​โมบาย​เคลื่อนที่พร้อมอุปกรณ์สารสน​เทศ 6 ล้านบาท ระยะ​เวลาดำ​เนิน​การ 1 ปี ​เริ่มต้นปี 2556 ​และสิ้นสุดปี 2557 ​โดย​เมื่อ​โครง​การสร้าง​เสร็จ​แล้วจะ​ทำ​ให้จังหวัดสุราษฎร์ธานีมี​แหล่ง​ให้บริ​การสารสน​เทศสำหรับนักท่อง​เที่ยว มีศูนย์ฝึกอบรม​เพื่อ​การพัฒนาอาชีพ สร้างราย​ได้​ให้กับชุมชน นัก​เรียนนักศึกษา ​ผู้ประกอบ​การ ประชาชนทั่ว​ไป​และนักท่อง​เที่ยว​ได้ศึกษาค้นคว้าด้วยตน​เอง​ทำ​ให้​เกิด​การ​เรียนรู้ตลอดชีวิต
"หากคณะรัฐมนตรีอนุมัติงบประมาณตามที่มหาวิทยาลัย​เสนอขอ ทางมหาวิทยาลัยสามารถดำ​เนิน​การ​ได้ทันที ​และคาดว่าจะ​แล้ว​เสร็จภาย​ในปี 2557" นายณรงค์ กล่าว
